Ahmadabad

Ahmadabad is a dry port with the code INAMD. The port and the city are located in India, specifically in Western India. The port is situated on the Sabarmati River in the Gujarat province. The city area has a dry port to which goods can be transported by road or railroad. The city has 5.6 million residents. It constitutes an important center of the cotton industry, of craft, and is also an important tourist center. The city was founded and named after Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411. Back then, it was the capital of the province. When the city was ruled by the British, the city grew in terms of its infrastructure. Since 2000, the city has been building skyscrapers. Many trade centers were also created. The city also has three seasons during the year: summer, monsoon and winter. Sometimes there are also tropical cyclones. The city has three universities. The oldest one, the Gujarat University, was established in 1949. The city’s mayor is Kanaji Thakor.
