Port of Puerto Limon

The Port of Puerto Limon was built around 1870. It is located in Limon, the third most populous city in Costa Rica and one of the oldest on the continent as its origin dates back to 1502, when Christopher Columbus reached the coasts of Costa Rica. In 2008, the populace numbered 65,700. Limon is located about 160 km from the country’s capital – San José.

The Port of Puerto Limon is the principal port in the country, situated in the eastern part of Costa Rica, on the coast of the Caribbean Sea. For many years now, Costa Rica’s most popular export goods remain coffee and bananas. The railroad and highway connecting Limon with San José allows for faster and easier transport of goods to and from the port.
